Fire Safety

Current State Fire Restrictions

More info

The last thing we want is for you to get hurt.  We want everyone safe.  Following fire safety protects all of us.  Due to the close proximity of all lots and the threat of lighting or air lifted embers, we are all at risk.  Let’s work together and limit that risk as much as possible.  Screening your fire is recommended. Please read this page and contact the board with any question or concerns.

There is great concern every year for fires in Aspen Hills.  With a relatively dry winter and a wet spring we have a recipe for disaster which means restrictions will be in place most of the year.

  • We have a wide range of people on the mountain: retirees, guests, teenagers and families young and old.  We all enjoy sitting around a cozy campfire on cool evenings.   However, not everyone could be familiar with the current fire restrictions.  To help keep our mountain safe we need to look out for one another.  If you see an unsafe fire, or a fire during a period of fire restrictions, please kindly help educate them on the rules and point them to the website for additional information.
  • Please make sure all fires are out cold before you leave the area.  If you see a fire that has been abandoned.  Please report it.
    • Sanpete County Fire Dispatch @ 435-835-2345
  • Not all fires are started from a fire pit. fires can also start from

    • Hot Engines
    • Chainsaws
    • Weed Eaters
    • ATV’s
    • Motor Vehicle
    • Exhaust
    • Welding

    • Fireworks

Fireworks

We all love fireworks and they make for a great display in the sky but unfortunately they also make for a disaster in a forest. Please do not use fireworks in aspen hills.   Not only is it not safe and could burn our beautiful mountain it’s state law.

Fire Pits

  • Sanpete County Rules
    • Clear campfire site down to bare soil.
    • Circle pit with rocks.
    • Build away from overhanging branches, steep slopes, dry grass, & leaves.
    • Keep a bucket of water and a shovel nearby.
    • Never leave a campfire unattended.
    • When putting out a campfire, drown the fire, stir it, and drown it again.
    • Always have adult supervision.
    • Be careful with gas lanterns, barbecue grills, gas stoves, and anything that can be a source of ignition for a wildfire.
  • Aspen Hills Rules
    • Please refer to Article IV section 5 of the CC&R’s reads “Section 5. Fires.  No open fires shall be permitted on any part of the Properties.  All chimneys and fireplaces shall be covered with spark screens.  All exterior fireplaces, BBQS, etc. shall comply with State laws and County ordinances.”
  • Utah State Law
    • The Utah fire code allows residents to have small recreational fires at their residence.  The fuel area cannot exceed 3ft diameter by 2ft in height.  Burning is limited to dry, clean, natural materials.  That means no garbage, plastics, rubber, oils or construction waste.
    • You must verify that it is a green burn day by checking the air quality forecast.
    • Keep open fires 25 feet away from structures or combustible materials.  Fires contained in an improved barbecue pits or portable outdoor fireplace require a minimum of 15 feet of clearance.  LP or natural gas fire pits or grills require 10 feet of clearance.
    • Have a method of extinguishment readily available.  Keep a garden hose or bucket of water close by.
    • Fires must be constantly attended until fully extinguished.
    • State Code 65a-8-211
    • Administrative code r307-202-811
  • International Fire Code

Let’s all think safety and enjoy the mountain for years to come.

In-Kind Wildfire Prevention

As property owners, our time spent in fire suppression work on our lots should be recorded and submitted to the board. The time recorded goes toward securing government grants. Some have asked where they can obtain the form to record hours.
